AIF partners with Stantec to launch Noise Helpline for festival promoters

The Association of Independent Festivals (AIF) has partnered with Stantec (formerly Hydrock) to launch a new noise helpline for festival promoters.

The helpline will be run by Santec and made available to AIF members, who will be able to get free advice on noise control issues at their event.

Stantec will also host a special webinar for AIF members on 14th May that will outline best practices in noise management, unravel the mysteries of how noise travels from festival sites and debunk myths surrounding it, and explore innovative methods for monitoring and managing noise at events.

Stantec is a global leader in sustainable engineering, architecture, and environmental consulting. Our acoustics team aims to deliver uncomplicated acoustic consultancy, delivered with clarity, accuracy, and passion. Our experience covers all environments and contexts.

Santec Technical Director Eddy Goldsmith said: “Good communication between acousticians and event production teams is essential in achieving the best possible event experience for partygoers and local residents alike, which is often overlooked and the key cause in harsh sound level reduction measures at outdoor events. With this AIF collaboration, we hope to pass on some helpful information which will improve future events, and by supporting with the Stantec Noise Support Helpline, we hope to help to reduce the likelihood of noise issues becoming a significant barrier at grass roots festivals.”

AIF Membership Services and Events Manager Phoebe Rodwell-Carson said: “Independent festivals have a symbiotic relationship with the communities that they are hosted in. They rely on the local infrastructure and workforce, and give so much back economically and culturally in return. Often, the organisers of independent festivals are longstanding members of the community themselves. Problems around noise can drive a wedge between music events and surrounding residents, which is the last thing any independent promoter would want. We’re pleased to be able to provide this resource in partnership with Santec so that AIF members are fully equipped to manage this particular aspect of their festivals for the good of their audiences and their neighbours.”
